BirDJ

A pad of birds you play like a beat machine.

• Tap the pads to fire birdcalls. On a touchscreen, use several fingers at once.
• On a keyboard play the pads with Q W E R T / A S D F G / Z X C V B.
• Got a Novation Launchpad? Plug it into desktop Chrome and its top-left pads play and light up with the grid.
• Drag a pad up or down while you hold it to bend the bird's pitch.
• Hold a pad to keep the bird playing; let go to stop.
• ✎ Edit then tap a pad to choose which bird sits there and tune it up or down in semitones. The sheet stays open while you try things, so pick a bird, tune it, hear it, then hit Done.
• Want to play a tune? In Edit, tap a pad and hit Major, Minor or Pentatonic: that bird is laid across all fifteen pads as a scale, low to high, and the grid becomes an instrument you can play a melody on.
• The demos are laid out the same way. Open one from Songs and it puts its own notes on the pads, tuned and in order, so when it finishes you are holding an instrument in that tune's key. Play along.
• ● Record a beat, then ▶ Play it back, or Share it: send a link that replays in anyone's browser, or save it as an audio file (your new alarm?) or a video. Songs has demos to hear what's possible.
